Achtung!

Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. A day to pay tribute to the men and women who serve the United States armed forces, Camera Obscura / Batcave’s “Achtung !” falls on Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 15, 2010.

Several nations of the world hold an annual Armed Forces Day to recognize, honor and venerate the military forces. On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense, Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy and Air Force Days. The event created the Armed Forces Unification under one Department: The Department of Defense.

On Saturday, May 15, 2010, Camera Obscura / BatCave will present “ACHTUNG ! ” In German, it means attention, watch out, honor, respect, pride. DJs Nocturna, Dark Cloud and Christ will be spinning dark 80s, goth, (German) electro-industrial and synthpop. Come dress appropriately for the occasion if you like.

Masquerade balls and pageants were triumphal processions celebrating marriages and other dynastic events of late medieval court life. Masquerade balls were extended into costumed public festivities in Italy during the 16th century. They were generally elaborate dances held for members of the upper classes, and were particularly popular in Venice. They later became popular throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, and they continue today, fondly celebrated by everyone and from all walks of life.
Camera Obscura held its first Dark Mask Ball at Next Door on March 1, 2008. It was a fun and memorable time being incognito as one’s identity was concealed while patrons and friends of Camera Obscura flocked to the downtown club in motley attires, elaborate costumes and dark masks.
Camera Obscura, featuring Djs Nocturna, Angst and Jet Boy, is bringing back the Dark Masked Ball to the Loft (115 N. Hotel St.) with superstar guest tribal fusion belly dancer, Sabrina Fox.
Sabrina is director of Atash Maya, her own belly dance troupe based in San Diego, California. She is also one of the members of Belly dance Superstars, another prestigious American belly dance troupe formed by Miles Copeland (Brother of Stewart Copeland of the Police). Traveling extensively and touring with Belly dance Superstars throughout Europe, Asia and the US, she continues to mesmerize us with her creative and provocative dances. She loves the island and has returned to Honolulu again to perform.
Thank you to the sponsors and friends of Camera Obscura’s Batcave:
